Lambuth Background

Gamma Omicron's First Brother

On November 9, 1957, Brother George Brasher was initiated into Kappa Alpha Order by the Gamma Gamma Chapter from Memphis State University. The following is a statement made by Brother Brasher outlining the early days of Gamma Omicron.

"I joined Kappa Phi Epsilon during my freshman year in the fall of l955. It was a local fraternity with pledging and initiation rituals similar to my high school fraternity. I wanted to join a national fraternity but none were on campus and none had ever been approved at Lambuth. However, the winds of change were blowing and we understood informally that the college might consider a change."

"Consequently, several of us became active and tried to find a national fraternity that was looking to expand to a small liberal arts college. The Kappa Alpha Order fit well into this category and we initiated talks with a local alumnus, Tommy Smith. We had to jump through hoops but were finally successful. John Fish and I attended the Kappa Alpha Order national convention in Jacksonville, FL in the summer of 1957. John was the model initiate at the convention. Our chapter was organized in the fall of 1957 and a group from Memphis State came to Lambuth to act as the initiation team. I was the first initiate of the Gamma Omicron chapter and served as the first Number II (or vice president) of the chapter."

Early Achievement

The first couple of years at Lambuth were quite successful for Gamma Omicron. Below is an outline of a few of the chapters accomplishments during that time.
